Idorenyin (Ido) Jamar, a Fellow of the Institute for Learning, is a member of the Disciplinary Literacy Mathematics Team. Ido was formerly an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Pittsburgh and an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria. Ido initially came to the University of Pittsburgh to serve as a Post Doctoral Fellow with Lauren Resnick at LRDC, where she was responsible for evaluating the Math Cube project, an innovative elementary mathematics curriculum. She has provided professional development opportunities for mathematics teachers and coaches both in the U.S. and in Nigeria. Ido began her career as a teacher of high school mathematics in Providence Rhode Island, and recently "returned to school" for two years to teach mathematics and coordinate the Science and Mathematics Academy in an urban high school. Ido has served on the Editorial Panel of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, the Board of the Pittsburgh Council on Public Education, and was a Member of the Implementation Committee for the Primary Science and Mathematics Improvement Project, Kano State, Nigeria. Ido received her degrees from Brown University - a B. A. in Applied Mathematics, an M. Sc. in Psychology, and a Ph. D. in Cognitive Psychology. She is Certified as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
